Amravati, January 11 (). Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday made it clear that attempts to damage the image of Visakhapatnam will not be tolerated.
He congratulated the Visakhapatnam Police for uncovering the facts behind the attack on a woman in the city and arresting the suspect.
Two days ago, a woman named Vijayadurga posted on social media that a man attacked and misbehaved with her at the Jagadamba Center in Visakhapatnam.
The police took immediate action and arrested the person responsible for the incident. However, preliminary investigation revealed that his mental condition was not good.
Officials said that the victim expressed satisfaction over the police’s prompt action and arrest of the accused as soon as information about the incident was received. Although the identity of the accused was unknown, the police identified him and arrested him after investigation.
The woman herself came to the police station and confirmed that the man was mentally unwell. He requested that he be admitted to a mental hospital. The victim also requested that no legal action be taken against the accused.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu praised the police action, saying it was proof that law and order in Visakhapatnam was excellent. Andhra Pradesh Police is committed to public safety.
The Chief Minister said that Visakhapatnam ranks first in the country in terms of women’s safety and advised high-ranking police officers to remain alert to prevent any such incidents in future.
He also ordered action against those trying to politicize such matters and defame the government. Chief Minister Naidu made it clear that he will not tolerate any harm to the image of Visakhapatnam.
Hours after the YSR Congress Party posted the video of the victim, the government issued a statement, saying the victim expressed anguish over the safety of women in the state. The statement read, “As a fellow Indian citizen, let us stand in support of the woman and demand immediate strict action against such persons.”
