Australian team left us behind in every aspect: Sciver-Brunt

London, July 6 (). England suffered a crushing defeat by 7 wickets at the hands of Australia in the final match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. After missing a golden opportunity to win the title at the historic ground of Lord’s on Sunday, England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt admitted that the hosts were defeated by the more experienced Australian team. However, he said that England still have a lot to be proud of after a fantastic tournament.

Sciver-Brunt scored unbeaten 58 off 53 balls, taking the team to a score of 150/4. However, Australia easily achieved the target in 17.1 overs. Beth Mooney scored the match-winning 64 runs for the visiting team.

After losing the title match, Sciver-Brunt said, “This defeat is very disappointing. We have had a very good tournament so far. Today we were beaten by a very good Australian team, who used their experience in such a big final.”

The England captain felt that the toss played a role, but admitted that her team failed to post a competitive score on a wicket that was not easy to bat on.

She said, “Ideally I would have won the toss and we would have bowled first, but on that wicket we fell short of a good score. It was difficult to find rhythm with the bat. I think when there is pressure, their bowlers hit the ball in the right places.”

Sciver-Brunt praised Australia’s ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Series’ Beth Mooney, saying, “Beth Mooney played a great game, she also played a great innings today.”

When asked if he expected Australia to play aggressively from the start while chasing, Sciver-Brunt said that this has always been a part of the defending champions’ strategy. “Yes, absolutely. They have a strong batting lineup,” he said.

Despite the disappointment of losing the final, Sciver-Brunt praised the English team’s hard work and unity throughout the tournament, saying, “We have a lot to be proud of. We’ve worked very hard in the lead-up to the tournament. The enthusiasm throughout the team. We played some great matches. This is a group of players who look after each other.”
