Dubai, June 12 (). International Cricket Council (ICC) President Jay Shah has congratulated all the 12 countries participating in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The Women’s T20 World Cup began on Friday with the match between hosts England and Sri Lanka.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is being hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board. England hosted the first edition played in 2009 and were champions. New Zealand is the defending champion and enters the World Cup aiming to defend the title. New Zealand will start their campaign against West Indies in the fourth match of the tournament at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.
Having won their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title in the UAE in 2024, New Zealand will be going in with full confidence. Captained by star all-rounder Amelia Kerr, New Zealand are one of the favorites to advance from Group 2.
Australia, the most successful team in the tournament, will begin their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a clash against South Africa at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Six-time champions Australia will enter the tournament as the top-ranked T20 team in the world and will be aiming to make a strong start under the captaincy of new captain Sophie Molineux. Meanwhile, South Africa, who are currently ranked fifth in this format, will be looking to win their first title. The journey of the Indian team, which reached England in the hope of winning its first title, will begin with the match against Pakistan on Sunday.
12 teams are participating in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 and a total of 33 matches will be played.
