Aam Aadmi Party has suffered a big setback before the Delhi MCD by-elections. Late Sunday evening, Shoaib Iqbal released a video message saying that he was resigning from all posts and primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party. He is resigning due to disappointment and dissatisfaction with the ideology of the party.
Shoaib Iqbal had alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party has failed to fulfill its responsibilities towards the people of Delhi. He has submitted his resignation and will no longer have any connection with the Aam Aadmi Party. It is noteworthy that Shoaib Iqbal’s son Ali Iqbal is the MLA of Aam Aadmi Party. According to sources, Aam Aadmi Party had announced the candidate for the area seat in the Municipal Corporation by-election without the consent of Ali Iqbal and Shoaib. This made Shoaib Iqbal angry and he resigned. Shoaib Iqbal has been MLA seven times.
Uproar in AAP’s Delhi unit
Shoaib’s son Ali Mohammad Iqbal is currently an Aam Aadmi Party MLA and has been a councilor from Chandni Mahal, where he has also been the vice-mayor. Shoaib had won from Matia Mahal on AAP ticket in the 2020 assembly elections, but the party has made Ali its candidate for the 2025 elections. This resignation has created an uproar in AAP’s Delhi unit, especially in Muslim-dominated areas, where the Iqbal family has a strong base.
