Pakistan has suffered a major setback in the atmosphere of tension between Iran and America. Pakistan, which was trying to play the role of mediator to bring about a ceasefire between these two countries, has now been left out of the process. After two rounds of talks in Islamabad failed, both Iran and America have lost confidence in Pakistan. As a result, the US is now directly negotiating with Iran.
According to Al Jazeera report, US President Donald Trump has said that instead of holding talks in Pakistan, the US is now focusing on talking directly over the phone with Iran. It is being told that there has been a lot of improvement in talks with Iran. Meanwhile, Iranian MP Ebrahim Razai remarked that Pakistan has lost its credibility as a mediator and is working under the US. However, Razai also acknowledged that although Pakistan is a good friend and neighbor, it is no longer a suitable mediator for these talks due to the current climate of mistrust.
Talks also took place between India and Iran
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi and India’s Foreign Minister Dr. S. There was a phone conversation between Jaishankar on Wednesday evening. According to reports, the two leaders discussed the Strait of Hormuz—a vital sea route for global energy supplies and trade. During this conversation, Araqchi apprised Dr. Jaishankar on various aspects of the issue.
