New Delhi. The Supreme Court has taken a major decision on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to save fuel in view of the economic effects of the West Asia crisis. The Supreme Court has decided to hold hearings only through video conferencing on Monday and Friday. Apart from this, there will be hybrid hearing on other three days. In view of the current situation, Chief Justice Surya Kant has taken this decision. Till now there was a system of hybrid hearing in the Supreme Court, the hearing was taking place both in person and virtually. At the same time, the Supreme Court judges have also agreed to carpooling. In the circular issued by Secretary General Bharat Parashar, it has been said that now the cases listed in the Supreme Court on ‘Miscellaneous Days’ (like Monday, Friday) and partial working days will be heard only through video conferencing. The Registry has been directed to send the video links on time and maintain smooth technical arrangements so that there is no hindrance in the functioning of the Court.
To ensure maximum fuel usage, the Supreme Court judges have unanimously resolved to encourage carpooling arrangements among themselves.
The Court has permitted a maximum of 50 per cent of the staff in each Registry Branch or Section to work from home for two days a week, provided that weekly rosters are prepared and uninterrupted functioning of the Court is ensured.
The concerned Registrar will ensure that the weekly agenda is prepared before the start of the week. Employees permitted to work from home are instructed to be available on telephone and ready to come to the office at any time if required.
The concerned officers will also ensure timely completion of various tasks assigned to them. If the Registrar concerned, after considering the essential nature of work in any branch or section, is of the opinion that the work from home arrangement is not effective, the Registrar may restrict or modify such arrangement for that branch or section.
