Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with chief ministers on Friday to review the preparedness of states. This conversation of the Prime Minister with the Chief Ministers of the states will be through video conferencing. According to sources, in view of Iran’s efforts to maintain control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz—which could impact energy flows—the main objective of the meeting will be to ensure coordination of efforts with a sense of national unity and collective resolve to face any challenge.
Chief Ministers of election states will not participate
It is important to note that the Chief Ministers of the states where elections are currently going on will not attend the meeting with PM Modi tomorrow, because the ‘Model Code of Conduct’ is currently in force in those areas. According to reports, a separate meeting will be convened through the Cabinet Secretariat exclusively for the Chief Secretaries of these election-bound states.
PM Modi discussed the impact of the conflict
It must be remembered that an all-party meeting was called on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Endorsing this view during his address in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi said the consequences of the conflict are likely to last for a long time and urged everyone to work together. Encouraging state governments to maintain India’s strong growth momentum, PM Modi recalled the exemplary “Team India” spirit demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic—a period when the Center and states worked together on testing, vaccination and supplies of essential goods. He stressed that at this time also the same spirit needs to be displayed once again.
Sufficient oil and fuel reserves for two months
The Indian government has confirmed that it has enough reserves of oil and fuel to last for about two months, and has urged the public not to panic over rumors spreading about possible shortages. Amid the current tensions in West Asia, officials have said that the country’s energy situation is stable and completely under control. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has confirmed that the supply of crude oil for the next 60 days has already been ensured. According to a press release issued by PIB on March 26, 2026, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have made advance arrangements for imports, thereby ensuring that there will be no disruption in supply.
