Bhagalpur. Bihpur assembly constituency of Bhagalpur district of Bihar is known for its geographical and political peculiarities. The region, surrounded by the rivers Ganga, Kosi and Budhi Gandak, is the center of an agriculture-based economy due to its fertile land. If we look at the geographical location, Bhagalpur is just 19 km away from the district headquarters and is close to towns like Bihpur, Navgachia and Sultanganj. Established in 1951, Bihpur assembly constituency comprises Narayanpur, Bihpur and Kharik development blocks under Bhagalpur Lok Sabha constituency. The voters of this area have been repeatedly changing their representatives in search of development.

If we talk about political perspective, then in 17 assembly elections since 1952 till now, no party has been able to win twice in the initial phase (1952-1969). Congress (1952, 1962), CPI (1957) and Bharatiya Jan Sangh (1967) won in turn. The trend changed from 1969, when CPI (1969–1977), Congress (1980–1985), Janata Dal (1990–1995) and RJD (2000–2005) won consecutively. In recent years, the BJP won in 2010 and 2020, while the RJD won in 2015.
In 2020, BJP wrested the seat from RJD by a margin of 6,129 votes, but in 2010 its victory was by only 465 votes. In 2015, RJD had won by 12,716 votes. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, NDA ally JDU got a lead of only 4,855 votes in Bihpur, indicating that it will be challenging for the BJP to save the seat in 2025.
According to the Election Commission data of 2024, Bihpur has a total population of 4,52,608, of which 2,36,107 are males and 2,16,501 are females. The total voters are 2,68,664, which includes 1,41,924 males, 1,26,718 females and 22 third genders.
Issues like agriculture, floods and unemployment influence voters in Bihpur. People believe that a party that wins the trust of voters and focuses on local issues can get an edge.
