Siwan, July 9 (). The Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) has taken major action against Excise Inspector Ankesh Kumar Gond posted in Siwan, Bihar in the case of acquiring disproportionate assets. Preliminary investigation has found evidence that the officer has assets about 202 percent more than his known income.
Bihar Police Headquarters (Economic Offenses Division) informed in a press release on Thursday that a case was filed against Ankesh Kumar Gond on Wednesday regarding disproportionate assets. The case was registered under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amended 2018).
After obtaining the search warrant from the Special Court (Surveillance), Patna, five separate teams were formed under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police level officers. On Wednesday itself, these teams started raiding simultaneously at five places. The EOU raid continues even on Thursday morning.
EOU teams have conducted search operations at the residence in Danapur, Patna, ancestral house in Chandanbagh, Munger, commercial building in Lallupokhar, Munger, office room of Excise Department in Siwan and rented house in Chitragupt Nagar.
According to the Police Headquarters (Economic Offenses Division), during the investigation, prima facie it emerged that the accused officer had acquired assets worth Rs 2 crore 36 lakh 31 thousand more than his legitimate income, which is approximately 201.97 percent more than his known income.
The team of Economic Offenses Unit in the barrack and office premises of Siwan Excise Department has been thoroughly examining the documents and records since morning. The team is also busy investigating bank accounts, investments, movable and immovable properties and other financial documents. Officials said that the search operation is currently underway and the Economic Offenses Unit will share detailed information after the completion of the investigation.
