Rajgir. A two-day ‘Nalanda Development Dialogue (NDD)’ is being organized at Nalanda University in Bihar from Sunday, March 8. This international policy seminar will bring together global policy-makers, development experts and scholars and thinkers from various fields on a common platform to discuss important issues related to sustainable, inclusive development and contemporary global challenges and opportunities.
The first edition of this international seminar organized by the Center for Studies in Development and Sustainability (CSDS), Nalanda University, is envisioned as an important platform for policy dialogue and knowledge exchange. Keynote lectures, thematic sessions and policy discussions will be organized in which topics like sustainable development, regional cooperation, economic transformation and global partnership will be discussed in depth. This initiative is inspired by the Gyan-Vidya Samvad tradition of ancient Nalanda, where scholars from all over the world gathered to exchange ideas. Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University, Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi said, “Nalanda Development Dialogue is an important effort to advance meaningful policy discussions on sustainable and inclusive development by reviving the global intellectual dialogue tradition of ancient Nalanda.”
Many eminent scholars and policy experts from India and abroad will participate in this international seminar. Prominent speakers and participants included Dr. Shamika Ravi, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and Secretary to the Government of India, Professor of Yale University. Thomas Pogge, Professor Emeritus, Department of Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Deepak Nayyar, Professor Tetsushi Sonbe of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo, Stefan Klingebiel of the German Institute of Development and Sustainability, André de Mello e Souza of the International Policy Center for Inclusive Development and many leading academics, policy-makers and development experts from various prestigious international institutions, universities and research organizations.
He said that Nalanda University is committed to taking forward the global intellectual dialogue by taking inspiration from the knowledge tradition of ancient Nalanda. Taking this tradition forward, this event is an effort to strengthen meaningful dialogue between the academic world and policy-making.
