What is BSNL Kavach?
As the name suggests, it acts like a ‘shield’ that keeps you safe and secure. This is a 10 digit temporary virtual number that you can use to recharge your mobile phone. Specifically, women can link this virtual number to their primary—i.e., real—mobile number. After this, she can share this virtual number while recharging the phone. As a result, the POS (Point of Sale) staff performing the recharge will not have access to your real mobile number, ensuring that your personal number remains private.
Even today, most people recharge their mobile phones through POS outlets—such as local mobile recharge shops—or third-party platforms. With this service, you now have the option to get your phone recharged without revealing your real mobile number. This service has been started keeping women in mind, so that they do not have to share their personal contact details with strangers. It empowers women to keep their real mobile number confidential. How to activate?
BSNL users can generate this virtual ‘Kavach’ number by visiting the official website of BSNL or using the ‘SelfCare’ mobile app.
To activate the number through customer care, you have to call. During the call, you’ll be asked for details about your area—specifically the location where you’re currently using your mobile number.
Once all the details are verified, customer care will send you your unique ‘Kavach’ number via SMS.
You can use this number in any situation where you do not want to share your personal mobile number. You can also use this ‘Kavach’ number to recharge your mobile phone. While using the app, users can easily create and get their ‘Kavach’ number by providing their area and location in the app interface.
