Campaign will run on mission mode for verification of weighing instruments and packer registration in the next three months: Sumit Godara

Jaipur. Under the chairmanship of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department Minister Sumit Godara, a review was organized with officials of the Legal Metrology Cell, Consumer Affairs Department at the Government Secretariat on Wednesday. For the benefit of the consumers, the Consumer Affairs Minister directed the Legal Metrology officers to work on a mission mode in the next three months and run a campaign to get packer registration done for the traders selling packaged goods under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Goods) Rules, 2011. To protect the interests of the consumers, Godara gave instructions to ensure compliance with the rules and also to complete the verification of weighing instruments used in wheat distribution at fair price shops in the next 45 days and ensure complete weighing to the consumers. Along with this, verification of the weighing machines being used by wheat procurement centres, jewelers and retail traders will also be conducted in the next three months in the campaign mode, in which instructions were given to take action towards providing complete weighing to the consumers under the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. So that meaningful efforts should be made towards establishing the state among the leading states in the field of legal metrology. In the meeting, by reviewing the work currently being done by the department in the context of consumer interests, suggestions were received from all the legal metrology officers present regarding further strengthening the department and 12 newly appointed legal metrology officers were also instructed to make meaningful efforts towards strengthening legal metrology.
Government Secretary of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department Ambrish Kumar and all legal metrology officers were present in the meeting.
