Beijing, February 18 (). According to the Chinese Ministry of Transport, the number of passenger traffic between different regions of the country on February 17 is estimated to be more than 21 crore. There has been a steady increase in inter-regional passenger traffic since the beginning of the Vasanthotsav travel season this year. The Transport Department has taken several measures to ensure safe and smooth travel of passengers.
Railways are expected to carry around 61 lakh passengers across the country on February 17 and plan to run 281 special passenger trains. Tourist special trains are being run at many places, which are meeting the demands of the passengers for local tourism during the Spring Festival. 22 new railway lines and more than 50 new railway stations, including Xiangqin High-Speed Railway, Baoyin High-Speed Railway and Xi’an High-Speed Railway, have participated in the Spring Festival Tour for the first time, effectively increasing the transportation capacity.
In addition to increasing transportation capacity, intelligent security screening equipment has been installed in many major stations to deal with the large number of passengers, which has greatly increased passenger movement efficiency. Intelligent security screening equipment installed in Beijing Railway Station has reduced the screening time per luggage from 6 seconds to 2 seconds.
To ensure safe travel of special passengers like elderly and children, ‘point-to-point’ connecting services are being provided for them in stations at many places.
Talking about roadways, vehicle traffic started increasing on February 17 and the flow of new energy vehicles is continuously increasing. It is estimated that during the Spring Festival holiday, the daily average flow of new energy vehicles will reach 12 million, which will account for about 22 percent of the total daily flow. Charging services are being continuously improved in various locations to reduce the problem of long queues for charging during holidays.
Talking about air routes, civil aviation is estimated to carry about 22 lakh 30 thousand passengers across the country on February 17 and the number of passengers has started increasing on popular tourist routes. Many new airports and new terminals, including Guangzhou Baiyun and Sanya Phoenix, have participated in the Spring Festival travel for the first time. Automated devices such as intelligent check-in, baggage check-in and security screening have greatly increased the efficiency of passenger movement.
