Vat Savitri fast is considered to have special significance in Hindu religion. Married women observe this fast for the long life and happiness and prosperity of their husbands. 🌳 Vat Savitri fast story (in brief)
According to the legend, Savitri, daughter of King Ashwapati, was married to Satyavan. Narada Muni had told that Satyavan’s life was very short and he would die within a year.
When Yamraj came to take Satyavan’s life, Savitri followed Yamraj on the strength of her devotion to her husband. Pleased with his devotion and penance, Yamraj gave him many boons, and finally Satyavan regained life.
Vat Savitri fast is observed in memory of this incident.
🪔 Easy Puja Method (Step-by-Step)
Take a bath in the morning and take a vow to fast. Apply sixteen adornments and go to the banyan tree. Offer water to the tree and apply roli-sandalwood. Take raw cotton and take 7 or 108 rounds of the banyan tree. Listen to the story of Savitri-Satyavan. Light a lamp and perform aarti. Finally, pray for the long life of your husband.
🌺 Religious significance
It is believed that the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh) resides in the banyan tree, hence worshiping it is considered extremely auspicious. This fast is considered a symbol of good luck and marital happiness for married women.
