Conspiracy to save the accused in Jharkhand liquor scam, should be investigated by CBI: Babulal Marandi

Ranchi, 25 September (). The state’s politics has been heated over the liquor scam in Jharkhand. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Jharkhand Assembly Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has written a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, alleging serious negligence in the investigation of the scam. He has demanded a CBI inquiry into the entire case, questioning the recent reshuffle at the top level in the ACB (Anti-Cults Bureau) investigating the scam.

Marandi wrote in the letter that the government treasury suffered a loss of hundreds of crores in the famous liquor scam. Many big people were accused including suspended IAS officer Vinay Kumar Choubey, former IAS Amit Prakash, former Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation (JSBCL), then General Manager Sudhir Kumar Das, businessman Siddharth Singhania and Vidhu Gupta, who supplied fake holograms. He was also sent to jail in judicial custody, but almost all the main accused came out on bail due to the negligence of ACB.

Babulal Marandi alleged that the ACB deliberately did not file a charge sheet in the court within a 90 -day deadline against these accused. Due to this, many accused including suspended IAS Vinay Kumar Choubey, former IAS Amit Prakash, JSBCL officials, mandaling company employees and businessmen from Chhattisgarh got relief. This is not a case of any general lapse, but a well-planned conspiracy to save the accused.

Marandi claimed that it is difficult to expect justice when the investigating agency does not take time on time.

He has also questioned the recent reshuffle in ACB. According to him, five officers were transferred with a change in the top leadership of ACB.

Marandi asked under which circumstances these officers were posted in ACB, then why were they suddenly removed and now where they are working. He has demanded from Chief Minister Hemant Soren that a fair investigation into the entire scam should be handed over to the CBI. Also, the role of those officers of ACB should be investigated, who were negligent in filing the charge sheet.

He also said that the reasons behind the transfers in ACB and benami properties of the officials concerned should be investigated. The BJP leader warned that if the state government does not take immediate and concrete action in this matter, it would be assumed that the scam has government protection.
