CWG 2026: A fond farewell to the Indian contingent, official kit unveiled for Glasgow

New Delhi. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Tuesday bid a fond farewell to the Indian contingent for the ‘Commonwealth Games 2026’. Also, the ceremonial and competition uniforms to be worn by Team India during the 23rd edition of the Games to be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2 were also unveiled. The event was attended by athletes, coaches, support staff, dignitaries and partners. The event was attended by Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha, British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, Sports Department Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao along with athletes, coaches and corporate partners. Speaking on the occasion, Union Sports Minister Mandaviya said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is building a world-class sports ecosystem that empowers our athletes to realize their full potential. Our athletes are ambassadors of sporting excellence, determination and aspirations of the new India. As Team India begins its journey to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, I urge each athlete to compete fearlessly, maintain the highest level of sportsmanship and Do your best. The Government of India stands strongly with each of you and is committed to provide all possible assistance to help you bring glory to the country.”
PT Usha said, “Today marks the beginning of another proud chapter for Indian sports. Every athlete wearing the Indian jersey has earned this opportunity through years of hard work, discipline and sacrifice. As they leave for Glasgow, they carry with them the hopes of a billion Indians and the values ​​that define our sporting culture. On behalf of the Indian Olympic Association, I wish every member of Team India all the best.”
Lindy Cameron, British High Commissioner to India, said, “I am delighted to be able to personally congratulate Team India as they travel to Glasgow. These Games will showcase not only athletic excellence, but also the unity, diversity and unwavering spirit of the Commonwealth. Sport is a very important part of the relationship between the people of the UK and India. I know that India is already preparing to welcome the Commonwealth sporting community to Ahmedabad for the Centenary Games in 2030. We look forward to welcoming India’s star athletes to the UK and wish them every success.”
The players’ official kits were unveiled during the farewell ceremony. The players walked the ramp wearing formal and competition attire. There was also an interaction with current and former Commonwealth Games medal winners on the occasion.
Designed by renowned designer Aaqib Wani, the official kit of the Commonwealth Games 2026 is inspired by the concept of ‘Invisible Trajectories’. The design reflects the speed, accuracy and rhythm of the players. Every line and curve of the jersey symbolizes the players’ effort, excellence and Team India’s constant pursuit of greatness.
For the Glasgow Games, India is sending a strong contingent of 124 competitors, which also includes para-athletes. The team will participate in 10 sports, including athletics, boxing, weightlifting, judo, gymnastics, cycling, lawn ball and swimming as well as para-athletics, para-wheelchair basketball, para-powerlifting, para-swimming and para-track cycling.
