Delhi Police has arrested another fake police officer. The accused was calling himself an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Delhi Police Crime Branch team has arrested this absconding criminal. He was cheating people by posing as a police officer.
Delhi Police has arrested Vimal Bhatt alias Sonu from Patparganj Industrial Area. According to the police, the accused was duping people by showing fake Intelligence Bureau ID cards. He is accused of not only putting fake police stickers on his vehicle but also using sirens and loudspeakers.
Declared a fugitive in August
On August 4, 2025, the court had declared the fake officer a fugitive. The accused faces serious charges of cheating, forgery and possessing fake documents. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 419, 467, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Earlier, Phulbagh police in Bhiwadi in Khairthal district of Rajasthan arrested a software engineer who had entered the police station posing as an IPS officer. Phulbagh SHO said that the accused Saurabh Kumar (34) reached the police station at night in a Scorpio, on which “Police” was written.
On reaching, he told the security guard that he was an IPS officer and posted at AIG rank in APG (Special Protection Group). He told the staff that he was on a special mission and a hotel room for the night should be immediately arranged for him. The accused is a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh and currently lives in Delhi. However, when he was interrogated, the ID card he was carrying was found to be fake.
Last month, in December, Maharashtra Police had arrested a fake police officer, Nilesh Kashiram Rathod, in Mumbai. Posing as an IPS officer of Delhi, he was arrested in Mumbai. He was wanted in many fraud cases. He was cheating along with his two other associates.
