Prolonged violent conflicts, recurring disasters and other crises are creating emergencies around the world, while relief efforts have been deeply impacted by funding cuts to humanitarian efforts. Against the backdrop of these challenges, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) continues its efforts to reach millions of people forced to flee their homes due to crises in 2025. The UN agency for refugee affairs published a new report on Monday, warning that violent conflicts and instability are causing even more people to be displaced, while increasing the plight of already homeless populations. Therefore, imhrc According to it, it is important to continue to focus on solutions. Tweet URL

During 2025, the UN agency delivered life-saving protection and other assistance to people affected by the world’s most challenging crises. For example, people fleeing the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and seeking refuge in Burundi and Uganda, civilians displaced by conflict in and beyond South Sudan, and Afghan refugees forcibly deported from Iran and Pakistan. Last year, the long-standing crisis deepened. Violent conflict has not subsided in Sudan, attacks on Ukraine are escalating, armed conflict is flaring in Colombia, and these circumstances are displacing civilians and deepening the crisis for already displaced populations. Ayaki Ito, Director for Emergencies and Program Support at the UN agency, said that in this environment, assistance is continuing to reach those in need, but there is a severe shortage of resources, which has affected her organization’s capacity. Assistance reaches populations in need As part of emergency assistance efforts, clean water has been provided to 5 million people in Sudan, financial assistance has been provided to 5 million Afghan refugees returning to Afghanistan and 1.2 million Syrian citizens. At the same time, assistance has been given to more than 1 million people displaced in Ukraine and in countries hosting refugees. According to the new report, the UN agency provided help to 16 countries in challenging situations including Sudan, South Sudan, Chad and other countries in 2025. This requires sufficient funds, the lack of which has affected the speed, scale and reach of the aid operation. Currently in the year 2026, conflict and instability continues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, South Sudan, Ukraine, Venezuela, due to which there is a possibility of more people being displaced. Due to such circumstances, 52 million people are forcibly displaced, which the UN agency estimates for 2026. represent one-third of the total requirements. However, the situation is predicted to worsen. In view of this, the UNHCR has made it clear that the international community must address the root causes of displacement and continue efforts to resolve it. During this time, the UN agency will continue its efforts to provide life-saving assistance to crisis-affected populations and will also focus on efforts to make those in need self-reliant.
