American billionaire Elon Musk’s company Starlink is preparing to launch its satellite internet service in India. The company has now got a major approval, which will allow it to double the number of satellites in its network. The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has given the company approval to deploy 7,500 second-generation satellites. This will bring the total number of satellites in the company’s network to 15,000.

The FCC has not only given the company the green signal to increase the number of satellites, but has also allowed it to operate on five additional frequencies and wavelengths, which were previously restricted. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said this approval would be a game-changer for the next generation of services. The new satellites will help the company provide better satellite broadband capabilities. Musk’s company plans to launch a total of 30,000 satellites, and has already received approval for 15,000. According to FCC terms, the company will have to commission half of the second generation satellites by December 2028 and the other half by December 2031.

Starlink has already received a provisional license to launch its service in India, and trials are underway.
