Emphasis on linking defense research with production, meeting of Defense Production Secretary with directors of IIT-NIT

New Delhi. Defense Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar on Tuesday held an online meeting with directors and deans of big educational institutions like IITs, NITs and IISc. Defense PSUs and other concerned parties were also involved in this conversation. The objective of the meeting was to link the research being done in universities and higher educational institutions with the needs of defense production. Also, emphasis was laid on creating a system that would ensure continuous cooperation over a long period of time. The topics specifically discussed during this period included promoting long-term research by involving students in the process, expanding the collaboration between academic institutions and Defense PSUs by not limiting it to small projects only, and creating concrete arrangements to work together on new and emerging technologies of the future.
Experts say that this will have the advantage that the research work done in colleges can be directly converted into useful defense technology. During this, Sanjeev Kumar thanked all the participants and said that such interactions help the Ministry to better understand the capabilities of academic institutions.
He appealed to the education world to work on enhancing the strength of the country in the long run through consultation with the Department of Defense Production.
Let us inform that in this meeting, senior professors from 24 major educational institutions of the country including IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Tirupati, IIT Guwahati participated. Through this conversation, it also became clear that the Defense Ministry is trying to develop self-reliant and future-ready defense technology in collaboration with the country’s top educational institutions and industries.
