New Delhi, February 17 (). The 13th joint military exercise Khanjar 2026 between Special Forces of India and Kyrgyzstan concluded with the closing ceremony on Tuesday at Misamari in Assam. This exercise ran from 4 February to 17 February 2026, in which elite units of both the countries participated in the spirit of friendship and professionalism. The objective of the exercise was to strengthen mutual understanding, operational synergy and shared tactical capabilities.
20 soldiers of the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) from the Indian Army and an equal number of soldiers from the Ilbris Special Forces Brigade from the Kyrgyzstan side participated. During the exercise, the focus was on counter-terrorism operations, special operations drills, urban warfare and other tactical training under UN mandate. Soldiers exchanged best practices, enhancing interoperability and trust. This exercise is a bilateral annual event started in 2011, which is organized by both the countries on rotation basis. The previous edition took place in Kyrgyzstan in March 2025.
In the closing ceremony, both sides expressed satisfaction over the success of the exercise. It not only served as a medium to hone military skills but also reiterated the shared commitment of both the armies to regional stability, security and long-term military cooperation. The exercise further deepened the India-Kyrgyzstan defense partnership, especially in addressing common challenges such as terrorism and extremism.
On the other hand, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command, Air Marshal Jitendra Mishra visited the frontline Air Force station. On arrival he was given a guard of honour. He conducted a detailed review of the operational preparedness of the station. Flew an operational sortie in SU-30MKI fighter aircraft and interacted with air warriors and support staff. The Air Marshal appreciated the high morale, professionalism and spirit of being ready at all times of the Air Warriors.
The visit was important to assess the operational capabilities and preparedness of the IAF. Air Marshal Mishra said that such preparations are important for the security of the country and the teams of Western Air Command are committed to face the challenges strongly.
