A local court in Hyderabad, Telangana has given an important verdict in the murder case of a retired railway employee in 2019. On Monday (June 8), the court sentenced his son and daughter to death, while his wife was given life imprisonment. The family members were accused of killing the 70-year-old man to avail pension benefits. They mixed poison in his food and then cut his body into pieces; Unable to dispose of the remains of the body, they kept the pieces in buckets inside the house.

The Chief District Judge of Malkajgiri Court convicted the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court awarded death sentence to the deceased’s son (47) and daughter (36), while his wife (65) was given life imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the victim worked as a goods train driver till 2000, when he took voluntary retirement (VRS) on medical grounds.
**Murder for pension and house**
The three accused had conspired to murder a retired railway employee to take possession of his pension and house. However, on 18 August 2019, locals became suspicious of a foul smell coming from the house, following which they went inside the house and found human remains; He informed the police about this. After investigation, the police arrested all three accused on 21 August 2019.
