Patiala. A shocking news has come out from Patiala, Punjab. Former Inspector General of Police (IG) of the state Amar Singh Chahal attempted suicide by shooting himself. He fired this bullet from the revolver of his security personnel. Seriously injured Chahal was immediately admitted to Park Hospital, Patiala, where he is undergoing treatment. Before firing the bullet, Amar Singh Chahal wrote a 12-page suicide note, which he addressed to Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav. According to police officials, in the suicide note he has mentioned online fraud of about Rs 8.10 crore. After retirement, Chahal was living in Patiala. Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said that as soon as information about the firing was received, police teams immediately reached Chahal’s residence and he was taken to the hospital.
Victim of fraud through WhatsApp group
In the suicide note, Amar Singh Chahal wrote that he had recently joined a WhatsApp group named “IPS Group”. They were lured by huge profits on investment in this group, falling prey to which they gradually invested huge amounts of money. Later they realized that this entire network was of online fraud.
Took loan from close relatives
Chahal also revealed in his note that out of the defrauded amount, he had borrowed around Rs 7.5 crore from his relatives and close acquaintances. The inability to repay the loan and the pain of hurting people’s trust put him under deep mental stress.
Name also in Behbal Kalan shooting incident
It is noteworthy that Amar Singh Chahal has also been an accused in the famous Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura firing case of 2015, in which two people were killed. In this case, on 24 February 2023, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police had filed a charge sheet in the Faridkot court.
Many big names included in the charge sheet
The names of many senior leaders and police officers were included in this charge sheet. These included the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, former Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal, former DIG Amar Singh Chahal, former SSP Sukhminder Singh Mann and SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma.
At present the police is investigating the entire matter and the suicide note is being seriously investigated at every point.
