In view of the serious impact of increasing heat and heat wave in the district, the District Basic Education Officer’s office issued an order to amend the operating timings of schools late on Sunday night. According to this office order issued on the instructions of the District Magistrate, now classes will be conducted from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm in all the council, non-government, government schools of the district and all the recognized schools including CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board. This time will remain in force till further orders. However, the letter of this order, issued late on Sunday night, did not reach the schools on time on Monday morning. In such a situation, parents and students had to face a lot of confusion. On Monday morning, classes still started as per the old schedule in many schools.
Parents say that the administration did not give them timely information through any means. A parent said, “The children are small, in such heat, we did not know anything about the new time. When we went to school, we came to know that the time has changed, but the school administration was also confused.”
In this order issued by District Basic Education Officer Rahul Pawar, it has been made clear that this change in time has been made keeping in mind the health of the children due to extreme temperature and heat wave. Copies of the order have been sent to the District Magistrate, Chief Development Officer, Additional District Magistrate Administration, City Magistrate, Sub-District Magistrate of Tehsil Sadar/Dadri/Jewar, District School Inspector, District Information Officer, Divisional Assistant Director of Education (Basic, First Division Meerut), Finance and Accounts Officer, all Block Education Officers, all Principals.
Despite this, failure of communication at the administrative level is causing problems to parents and students. According to experts, the temperature may increase further in the coming days, hence it is important to ensure timely compliance of the order. Parents have requested the administration to inform them in advance about such changes in future through WhatsApp, SMS or schools.
