Ghaziabad. A shocking incident came to light on Saturday from Rawali Kala village in Muradnagar area, where an 80-year-old man murdered his 72-year-old wife with an ax and then surrendered at the police post. According to the police, the 80-year-old accused has been identified as Harpal. He reached Rawali police post and told officers that he had killed his wife Urmila at their home on Friday. After receiving the information, the policemen immediately reached the spot and found the elderly woman lying on the cot soaked in blood. He was immediately taken to the Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said that the accused has been taken into custody and the body has been sent for post-mortem. Further legal action is underway in the matter.
Modinagar’s Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Bhaskar Verma said that Harpal is a resident of Ravali Chowki area under Muradnagar police station. He himself came to the police post and confessed to the crime he had committed.
He said that on May 16, Harpal told the police that he had killed his wife with an ax some time ago. The accused has been taken into custody. The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway.
According to family members, Harpal was living at his daughter’s house and it is said that his mental condition was not good for some time. The family members also told that there were frequent fights between the elderly couple.
Kunal, the grandson of the deceased woman, told the police that his grandfather often quarreled with his family members over small matters. Kunal said that at the time of the incident, my brother and I were sleeping in another room, while our parents had gone to Meerut. We came to know about the incident when the police reached there in the morning.
The police are continuing their investigation to find out the exact reasons behind the murder of the elderly woman.
