Ghazipur, July 22 (). Ghazipur Police has started a large-scale investigation into the arms licenses issued to members and associates of late mafia Mukhtar Ansari’s gang IS-191. A case has been registered against three people including MP Afzal Ansari after many important records were found missing during the investigation.
Ghazipur Superintendent of Police Dr. Iraj Raja said that so far physical verification of a total of 145 weapons bought and sold on 51 arms licenses is being done. For this action, special teams were formed on the instructions of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Varanasi Zone.
The investigation teams visited various districts of Uttar Pradesh, besides Delhi, Punjab and Arunachal Pradesh and examined the records of District Magistrate offices and licensed arms dealers. During this period, original files and purchase-sale records related to many arms licenses were found missing from the archives.
He told that there was talk of selling many weapons, but it did not happen. Nor were any documents related to the sale found. It is believed that Mukhtar Ansari’s gang used these weapons on the pretext of selling them. He said that many files related to this have been disappeared in a very vicious manner. The investigation into this matter was going on for a long time.
Police say that the current status of some weapons could not be known. In the preliminary investigation, it has been suspected that due to alleged collusion with the then arms clerks, the original records were made to disappear, which created hindrance in gathering information about verification and use of weapons.
According to the police, documents and purchase-sale records related to license number 1188 P-2 issued in the name of Afzal Ansari were not available. Apart from this, the current status of rifle number 830405 purchased on this license was also not clear.
On this basis, a case has been registered in the police station. Police have initiated action against Afzal Ansari, the then First Arms Clerk Asfaq Ahmed and Second Arms Clerk Gauri Shankar Ram under case number 535/2026.
Police have registered a case against the three accused under various sections and the Arms Act. Further investigation is ongoing in the matter.
Ghazipur Police says that the verification of remaining arms licenses and weapons related to them is still going on. Wherever evidence of irregularities or violation of rules is found during the investigation, legal action will be taken against the concerned persons.
