According to the new instruction of UIDAI, the deadline for updating Aadhaar card for free has been extended by one year. Citizens can now update their Aadhaar card for free till June 14, 2027. Earlier, this deadline was set for June 15, 2026; However, an additional year has now been granted.

Applications can be submitted through the official portal only

According to UIDAI, the facility to update Aadhaar card without any fee will be available only online through ‘MyAadhaar’ portal. Moreover, this facility is for those individuals whose Aadhaar card is several years old and whose details have not been updated till now.

Why is it important to update your Aadhar card

It is extremely important to update your Aadhaar card. This is because if the Aadhaar card is not updated, individuals will not be able to avail benefits related to banking, pension, gas connection and various government schemes. They will also not be able to get mobile SIM cards or other essential items. Therefore, Aadhaar card can be updated online without any fee by applying through the portal.

Fees for update at Aadhaar centers

If you choose to update your Aadhaar card offline by visiting an Aadhaar centre, charges will be applicable. UIDAI has set a fee of ₹50 to ₹75 for updating Aadhaar card. Additionally, details like name, date of birth, gender and address can be updated by submitting online application through the official portal.

Process to update Aadhaar online

Visit UIDAI’s ‘MyAadhaar’ portal and log in by entering your 12-digit Aadhaar number. Access your account by entering the One-Time Password (OTP) received on your registered mobile number. Click on ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ or ‘Document Update’ option. Fill in the required details for the specific information you want to update – be it your name, address or date of birth – and upload scanned copies of your identity proof and address proof documents. Once you view the completed form, click ‘Submit’ to generate a Service Request Number (SRN); This will allow you to track the status of your updates online.
