Chandigarh. All India Congress Committee General Secretary, former Union Minister, CWC member and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja said that the recent report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has exposed the appalling condition of agricultural laborers in the country and especially in Haryana. According to the report, 104 agricultural laborers committed suicide in Haryana in the year 2024. This figure is not just a number, but a painful evidence of the government’s failed policies, rising unemployment, non-payment of minimum wages and lack of social security. MP Kumari Selja said that the Congress party has always been raising the voice of farmers and labor class. Agricultural laborers are the backbone of the country’s rural economy, but today they are the most vulnerable and neglected. Lakhs of families dependent on agriculture are facing employment crisis, increasing debt, inflation and difficulties of living are increasing continuously. The BJP government claims to have a double engine, but the ground truth is that the laborers working in the fields are neither getting regular employment nor respectable wages. Schemes like MNREGA were weakened, benefits of social security schemes remained limited to a limited number of people and employment opportunities in rural areas have continuously decreased. MP Kumari Selja said that the government should immediately pay attention to this serious issue. Special relief packages for agricultural labourers, guarantee of minimum wages, expansion of social security schemes and permanent opportunities for rural employment should be ensured. The MP said that if the government does not take effective steps in time, the economic and social crisis in the rural society will deepen. The Congress Party will continue to strongly fight for the rights of workers and farmers and will hold the government accountable.
Deteriorating law and order in Haryana
MP Kumari Selja said that the killing of a young man by firing 20 bullets at his car in broad daylight in Jhajjar is a horrifying example of the complete breakdown of law and order in Haryana. The morale of criminals in the state is so high that now people are being killed openly with bullets and the BJP government remains a mere spectator. The increasing incidents of gang war, extortion, murders and firing in Haryana are proving that the BJP government has lost control over crime. The public wants security, not just empty claims.
