Beijing, May 12 (). Chinese Vice President Han Cheng attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Digital Education Conference held in Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Guangdong province.
Han Cheng said that digital technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) are developing rapidly. He pointed out that President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the profound impact of AI on the field of education. At the same time, they emphasize promoting comprehensive education of AI at all educational levels and throughout society to develop high-quality talents.
He said that in recent years, China has been actively pursuing the national digital education strategy. With the help of digital technology, the pace of change in the education system is being accelerated. China is sharing high-quality digital education resources with students around the world and promoting the building of a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable global digital education ecosystem with cooperation from all parties.
Han Cheng also said that the integration of AI and other digital technologies into education is a huge opportunity for global education development, but it also brings with it many shared challenges.
He said China is willing to work together with all countries to improve the development of digital education, its governance model, and related rules and standards, so as to advance the reform and innovation of digital education.
Guy Parmelin, Federal President of Switzerland and Head of the Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, delivered a video message at the opening ceremony of the conference. Meanwhile, UNESCO Director General Khalid Al-Enani was also present at the ceremony and delivered an address.
