Chandigarh. Congress has also issued a notice to the fifth MLA and sought his reply regarding cross voting in the Rajya Sabha elections held in Haryana. Congress disciplinary committee has issued a notice to Ratia Congress MLA Jarnail Singh. Earlier, Haryana Congress in-charge BK Hariprasad had made public the names of four cross-voting MLAs Renu Bala, Shaili Choudhary, Mohammad Ilyaz and Mohammad Israel. Let us tell you that in the Rajya Sabha elections held in Haryana, BJP and Congress had won one seat each. During this election, there were complaints of violation of vote secrecy and cross-voting. BJP’s Sanjay Bhatia and Congress’s Karamveer Boudh had won. BJP supported independent candidate Satish Nandal had to face defeat. 88 MLAs had voted in the Rajya Sabha elections. Two MLAs of Indian National Lok Dal, Arjun Chautala and Aditya Devi Lal, abstained from voting. In the 90-member assembly, BJP has 48 seats, Congress has 37 seats, Indian National Lok Dal has two seats and independent candidates have three seats.
When the counting of votes was completed, leaders of both the parties claimed victory for their respective candidates. Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner alleging that efforts were being made to interfere in the fairness of the elections. Citing the sensitivity of the matter, he had requested the Chief Election Commissioner to meet a party delegation before the results were announced.
Let us tell you that Congress MP Kumari Selja had congratulated the MLAs while reacting to the party’s victory in Haryana. He had expressed confidence that the party was already confident of victory and the elections were fought with the same confidence.
