12 year old Ayush left alone

Jaisalmer/Devprayag. The rescue operation of the Innova car of the same family of Jaisalmer, which got stuck in the strong current of Alaknanda river in Devprayag, Uttarakhand, ended on the seventh day on Monday (08 June 2026) at a very painful turn. The bodies of the mother and her two daughters, who were missing in the surging waves of the river, have finally been recovered from the Ganga river, 15 kilometers away from the spot. In this horrific and heart-wrenching accident, 7 people in the car have died, while due to luck, 12 year old innocent Ayush (Ayushman) has escaped alive, who is being treated at AIIMS Rishikesh. Today on Tuesday, the bodies of mother and daughter will be cremated in Haridwar.
The family was returning after visiting Badrinath Dham. This family of Kalbani Alaknanda, Jaisalmer, near Devprayag, had left for the Chardham Yatra with great enthusiasm on 26th May. On June 2, everyone was returning after visiting Badrinath Dham, when their Innova car went out of control near Devprayag in Tehri district, crossed a deep ditch and fell straight into the Alaknanda river.
Dr. Dinesh Mali (27), his mother Kamala Devi (67), elder sister Guddi Devi (40), niece Ashlesha (18), nephew Ayushman (12), Guddi Devi’s daughters Namrata (20) and Jyotsna (16) were traveling in the car.
‘Deep diving’ search operation continued for 7 days amidst the strong currents of Ganga
As soon as information about the accident was received, local administration, police and SDRF teams took charge. Amidst the dangerous flow and water level of the river, divers risked their lives and carried out a continuous search operation:
The car was completely flattened: The rescue team first pulled out the crashed Innova car from the depths of the river. The collision was so severe that the car was completely crushed and there was no one inside it.
4 bodies found in the initial phase: In the initial search, bodies of Dr. Dinesh Kumar Mali, his elderly mother Kamla Devi, niece Ashlesha and car driver Amit were found, who were cremated in Haridwar on June 5.
Bodies washed up 15 km away: Three women (mother and two daughters) were missing. After a tough struggle, the body of younger daughter Jyotsna (16) was found from Vyas Ghat on Sunday. After this, late on Monday evening, the rescue team also found the bodies of mother Guddi Devi (40) from Vyas Ghat and the bodies of second elder daughter Namrata (20) near Taj Hotel.
The entire house was destroyed… now only 12 year old Ayush’s life is left.
Devprayag’s Kotwal Prashant Bahuguna said that after complete legal process and identification, the three bodies have been handed over to the mournful and crying family members who arrived from Jaisalmer.
Scene of devastation: This horrific accident destroyed the entire family. Guddi Devi and her three daughters (Namrata, Jyotsna, Ashlesha) died untimely in this accident. Now only 12 year old Ayushman is left alive in this family, who was rescued in Devprayag immediately after the accident and was first airlifted to Srinagar Base Hospital and from there to Rishikesh AIIMS (AIIMS), where his condition remains stable.
