Hot to severe heat wave conditions prevail in the plains of north-western and central India. Heat wave condition continues in the national capital Delhi also. Residents of Western Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are facing scorching heat. Heat wave conditions are likely to persist in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for thunderstorms and rain in 15 states.

It is worth noting that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala around May 26. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in many states. During this period, winds can blow at a speed of up to 70 kilometers per hour. The weather conditions are expected to deteriorate in the next 12 hours. There is a possibility of thunderstorm and lightning in Maharashtra and Marathwada region also. A look at the country’s weather forecast:

**Today’s weather forecast for Delhi-NCR
**Delhi-NCR (19 to 22 May):** There will be severe heat in Delhi-NCR in the next two days. On May 19 and 20, the temperature may cross 45 degrees Celsius. A slight drop in temperature is possible on 21st and 22nd May. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 42 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 27 degrees Celsius. Strong surface winds are expected during the day.

Today’s weather forecast for Uttar Pradesh
**Uttar Pradesh (May 19):** Light rain is possible at some places in Meerut, Mathura, Agra, Aligarh, Rae Bareli, Kanpur, Banda, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Maharajganj and Mau. During this period, winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Today’s weather forecast for Rajasthan
**Rajasthan (19th to 23rd May):** The intensity of heat has increased across Rajasthan. IMD has issued ‘Yellow Alert’ for 19 districts. Temperatures are likely to rise not only in western Rajasthan, but also in northern and eastern parts of the state. The Meteorological Department has predicted that similar conditions will prevail in Jaipur in the next 3-4 days, in which the temperature is likely to increase by 1 to 2 degrees.

How will the weather be in Madhya Pradesh today?
**Madhya Pradesh (19-20 May):** The Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave warning for 31 out of 55 districts of Madhya Pradesh. These include Vidisha, Raisen, Khandwa, Ratlam, Guna, Gwalior, Datia, Rewa, Rajgarh, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Sagar, Chhatarpur and Tikamgarh. Maximum temperatures are likely to remain above normal levels in most parts of the state, expected to hover between 42 to 45 degrees Celsius.

How will the weather be in Bihar today?
**Bihar (19-20 May):** Heavy rain and thunderstorm warning has been issued for Gaya, West Champaran, East Champaran, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Saharsa, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Madhepura, Banka, Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi. At the same time, the maximum temperature in Patna is expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius on May 19, while the minimum temperature will be around 29 degrees Celsius.

How will the weather be in Uttarakhand today?
**Uttarakhand (May 19 to 22):** Temperatures in the plains are likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius or more. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the temperature in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar will exceed 40 degrees Celsius on May 20, 21 and 22. At the same time, the temperature is expected to be between 35-40 degrees Celsius in Dehradun, Nainital and Pauri Garhwal and between 30-35 degrees Celsius in Tehri Garhwal, Almora, Champawat and lower hilly areas.

How will the weather be in Jammu and Kashmir today?
**Jammu and Kashmir (May 19 to 22):** Light to moderate rain with gusty winds is likely over Jammu and Kashmir on May 19 and 20. Heat wave may return again from May 21 to 25; However, there is a possibility of light rain in the afternoon every day. The weather is likely to become dry again after May 25.

How will the weather be in Maharashtra and Gujarat today?
**Maharashtra and Gujarat (19th to 24th May):** There will be no significant change in the maximum temperatures in Maharashtra and Gujarat on 19th May. Thereafter, the maximum temperature is likely to drop gradually by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius between May 19 and May 24. There is no possibility of any major change in the maximum temperature in the rest of the country till May 24.

How will the weather be in Himachal Pradesh today?
**Himachal Pradesh (May 21):** Warning of light rain and thunderstorm has been issued in Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu, Una, Kangra and Kinnaur. During this period the winds will blow at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, in Manali today – on May 19 – the maximum temperature is expected to reach 14 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to drop to 3 degrees Celsius.

How will the weather be in Chhattisgarh today?
**Chhattisgarh (19 to 21 May):** Chhattisgarh may see an increase of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in temperature by 21 May. The Meteorological Department has advised the residents of Chhattisgarh to remain alert. Amidst the scorching heat, people have been advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

How will the weather be in Jharkhand today?
**Jharkhand (May 19):** Heavy rain and thunderstorm warning has been issued for Khunti, Ranchi, Simdega, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Jamshedpur, Giridih, Seraikela, Dumka, Gumla, West Singhbhum and East Singhbhum. Apart from this, winds are likely to blow at a speed of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour during this period.

How will the weather be in Odisha today?
**Odisha (May 19):** Amidst the scorching heat, heat wave continues in Odisha. The temperature is likely to go above 40 degrees Celsius in 16 cities of the state. Jharsuguda was the hottest place recorded in the state, with a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has issued a severe heat alert for Balasore, Sundargarh, Sonpur, Bargarh and Khurda.

How will the weather be in Punjab today?
**Punjab (May 19):** Severe heat is expected in Moga, Faridkot, Jalandhar, Fazilka, Rupnagar, Gurdaspur, Patiala, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Sangrur, Bathinda and Muktsar. However, residents of Punjab are expected to get some respite from the heat from May 22, as light rains are likely to bring down the temperature.

How will the weather be in Tamil Nadu today?
**Tamil Nadu (19-20 May):** Heavy rains are likely to continue over Tamil Nadu for the next few days. The weather department has predicted heavy rain in Dindigul and Sivagangai districts. Today (May 19, 2026) heavy rain is expected in the hilly areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur as well as Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul and Madurai districts. In Chennai, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at isolated places.

How will the weather be in Kerala today?

Kerala (19 to 24 May): Heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds is expected in parts of Kerala and Mahe for the next five days. In view of the possibility of heavy rain in many parts of the state, the Meteorological Department has issued ‘Orange Alert’ for two districts and ‘Yellow Alert’ for 10 districts of Kerala. ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod districts, while ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for 10 districts except Thrissur and Palakkad.
