On the second day of the Delhi Test match, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s luck did not favor him and he was out after scoring 175 runs. Jaiswal had a chance to score his third double century, but he was run out due to a misunderstanding with captain Shubman Gill. Jaiswal was out after scoring 175 runs. Although he missed the double century, he made a big world record. This is Jaiswal’s seventh Test century. At the age of 23, this young Indian star became the fastest batsman to score seven centuries as an opener in Test cricket. By doing this he broke the record of former South African great Graeme Smith.
Graeme Smith had scored seven Test centuries as an opener by the age of 23, but it took him 50 innings to achieve this feat. At the same time, Jaiswal achieved this feat in his 48th innings only. Jaiswal scored 175 runs in 258 balls with the help of 22 fours in his innings. It is noteworthy that Jaiswal has been run out twice in his Test career. Earlier, he was run out after scoring 82 runs in the Melbourne Test against Australia in 2024.
Most Test centuries for India by the age of 23:
Sachin Tendulkar – 11.
Yashasvi Jaiswal – 7.
Ravi Shastri – 5.
Dilip Vengsarkar – 5.
Jaiswal was unlucky.
Jaiswal was run out on the second ball of the 92nd over of the Indian innings. Seales bowled a short, full length ball slightly outside the off stump, which Jaiswal played towards mid-off and ran for a run, but Gill showed no interest. However, by then Jaiswal had gone far away from his crease. Jaiswal returned from the middle of the crease, but could not reach his crease on time.
There was a misunderstanding between Gill and Jaiswal and Jaiswal missed his double century. Gill looked disappointed and was probably telling Jaiswal that there was no need to run, because Jaiswal had run only after playing the shot. Both of them talked for some time, but ultimately Jaiswal returned to the pavilion disappointed.
Jaiswal broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record
Jaiswal has become the third batsman to score the most Test runs for India after 48 Test innings. By doing this he has left behind Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.
