India-Rus Trade Talks: Meeting on tariff controversy, what will be satisfactory solution?

The discussion on the trade agreement between India and the US will begin tomorrow. US chief conversation Brendon Lynch and his team will reach India tonight. The Indo-US trade agreement will be discussed throughout the day tomorrow. Rajesh Agarwal, the chief negotiator of the US and Special Secretary in the Department of Commerce, will discuss Indo-US trade on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The conversation is taking place after the postponement of the agreement of 25 August 2025.

According to a report by Mint, further strategy on the Indo-US Trade Front will be decided this month. India’s Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal said on Monday that the two countries are in a ‘positive mentality’ on the trade issue. Barthwal said on Monday that there are some other issues which do not have a direct connection with business, which I would not like to talk. They will also be raised at diplomatic level.

Indo-American Trade Agreement
India and the United States have been talking on a possible bilateral trade agreement (BTA) since March 2025, before President Donald Trump announced his ‘mutual’ tariff on 2 April 2025. American President Donald Trump has imposed a total of 50% tariff on all the goods imported from India. These 50% current tariff rates were implemented in two phases, in the first phase, 25% import duty on all goods coming from India was imposed, which came into effect from August 1, 2025. The second 25% tariff phase was implemented under an executive order of August 6, 2025, which came into effect from August 27, 2025.
