Interview with Mirek Dusek, Executive Director of the World Economic Forum

Beijing, June 22 (). World Economic Forum (WEF) Executive Director Mirek Dusek has said that China has emerged as a major center of global innovation. Through the extensive use of new technologies, China has successfully demonstrated its ability to accelerate real economic and industrial transformation.

In a recent interview with Xinhua news agency in Geneva, Switzerland, Dusek said China has made significant progress in the field of ‘large-scale innovation’. He said that the world is now showing keen interest in learning from this experience.

The 17th New Champions Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, will be held in Talien City, China from June 23 to 25. The theme of this year’s meeting has been ‘Innovation at Large Scale’. More than 1,700 delegates from more than 90 countries and regions will participate in it.

Dusek used the word ‘paradoxical’ on the current state of the global economy. He said that on one hand technology is advancing rapidly and reshaping industries and society, while on the other hand geo-economic and geo-political competition and division is increasing. According to him, the biggest challenge facing the global economy is uncertainty, which is affecting both business and investment.

Dusek believes that the current economic development is not balanced. He said that investments and trade related to artificial intelligence (AI) are giving new impetus to development, but not all countries and industries are able to benefit from it equally. Therefore, the biggest challenge for the future is to ensure that the benefits of AI opportunities reach as many people and sectors as possible.

He said that the real success of innovation is only when it is effectively implemented in industries and the real economy. This is also the main message of this year’s summer Davos forum, the theme of ‘large-scale innovation’. According to Dusek, China has made remarkable achievements in this direction and has given new energy to industrial transformation and economic development through the use of new technologies.
