Tehran, June 12 (). Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday that the US’s new attacks against Iran have neutralized the ceasefire between the two sides in April.
In a phone conversation with European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Thursday, Araghchi strongly condemned the recent US attack, calling it a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law.
According to Xinhua, he also said that the US is responsible for the dangerous consequences of its attacks.
US Central Command said Thursday morning that its forces have launched additional strikes on several Iranian targets in response to Iran’s unprovoked and sustained attacks.
“CENTCOM forces struck Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communications systems, and air defense sites throughout Iran. U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy assets conducted precision munitions fire against Iranian targets, threatening U.S. forces and international commercial vessels transiting the area’s waters,” CENTCOM wrote on Twitter.
It added, “These strikes are in response to Iran’s unprovoked and sustained attacks. The U.S. military remains alert, dangerous, and ready.”
Following the attacks, Iran’s main military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, announced that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed to all types of vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships.
Additionally, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said they targeted US bases in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation for the US attacks.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump threatened new military action against Iran and said the US could eventually take control of Iran’s vital oil infrastructure. This was said hours after US forces disabled a third commercial tanker, which is accused of breaking Washington’s blockade against Tehran.
US President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “America will attack Iran very strongly tonight.”
