Amidst the ongoing conflict and tension in the Middle East, the dates for the assembly elections to be held in many states of India have been announced. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has made a big prediction. He said that after the elections, the country will see a huge increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG gas cylinders.

The weakening of the rupee towards 100 against the dollar and the sharp rise in the prices of industrial fuel – these are not just figures, but clear signs of the coming inflation.

What did Rahul Gandhi say in his ‘X’ post?

Notably, on Saturday (March 21, 2026), Congress MP Rahul Gandhi shared a post on the social media platform ‘X’. In this post, Rahul Gandhi targeted the Modi-led central government over the issue of weakening of the Indian rupee against the US dollar. “The rupee weakening against the dollar and moving towards 100, as well as the huge increase in industrial fuel prices—these are not just statistics, but clear signs of inflation to come.”

“The government may call it ‘normal’, but the reality is:

He further said, “The government may call it ‘normal’, but the reality is that the cost of production and transportation will increase; MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) will be most affected; prices of daily essentials will increase; and FII (foreign institutional investors) money will rapidly flow out of the country, putting pressure on the stock market. In short, it is certain that this will have a direct and deep impact on the pockets of every family. Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, further said, “The Modi government has no direction and no strategy—only rhetoric. The question is not what the government is saying; the question is: What is left in your plate?”
