Jammu, January 16 (). Kathua Police of Jammu and Kashmir, in coordination with other security forces, has busted three terrorist hideouts in Bilwar area of Kathua district.
Police said that on January 7, 2025, credible information was received regarding the activities of anti-national elements in the forest area of Kamad Nala located in Dhanu Parol, Kalaban of Bilwar district. Acting promptly on the information, joint teams of security forces launched a massive search operation to neutralize the terrorists. During the operation, unidentified terrorists fired indiscriminately at the security forces, resulting in continued firing throughout the night.
During the search operation, a terrorist hideout was intercepted from where 2 M4 cartridges (blank cartridges), a plastic box filled with desi ghee, a polythene packet filled with almonds, gloves, a cap, a blanket, a tarpaulin, a small bag, and a polythene bag were recovered.
In connection with the ongoing search operation, on 16 January 2026, joint teams busted two more terrorist hideouts in Kalikhad and Kalaban areas of Bilwar.
Cooking gas cylinders, cooking oil, charger cords, gloves, cooking and eating utensils, empty oil gallons, large plastic bags, torches, blankets, containers and wrappers of food items and other miscellaneous items have been recovered from these locations.
Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Sharma said that the search operation is still going on and the Kathua police is fully committed to maintaining peace and security in the district.
Earlier on Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Police said that 14 grams of brown sugar was seized in Srinagar. During this period the police have arrested two people.
Srinagar police recovered 14 grams of brown sugar during a naka (checkpost) checking operation conducted by Kralkhud police station on Friday, a police statement said. The recovery was made from the possession of Raees Ahmed Dar alias Raees Bandar and Abish Imtiaz Bhat, residents of Barbarshah area of Srinagar.
