Palamu. Three youths died due to drowning in Son river during the Kharna Snan of Chhath festival in Hussainabad police station area under Palamu district of Jharkhand. The bodies of all three were recovered on Monday with the help of local divers. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the area due to the incident. It was told that near Pokharahi village of Hussainabad police station area, five youths had entered the Son river to take a bath in Kharna on Saturday evening, when they went into deep water. Two of these youths somehow managed to come out, while three youths drowned. The villagers immediately raised an alarm and started searching with the help of local divers. As soon as information about the incident was received, Hussainabad’s SDPO S Mohammad Yakub, CO Pankaj Kumar and Dangwar OP in-charge Sonu Gupta reached the spot. After this, the rescue operation continued till late night, but the youth were not found.
When the operation started again on Monday morning under the supervision of the administration, the bodies of all three were recovered. The deceased have been identified as Ankush Paswan (22), resident of Sherghati, Bihar, Adarsh Chandravanshi (22), resident of Itwa, Navinagar in Aurangabad district, and Rajneesh Chandravanshi (23), resident of Pokharahi village. All of them had come to a relative’s place in Palamu on Chhath festival. The bodies of all three have been sent to Hussainabad Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem.
There is an atmosphere of mourning in Pokharahi village and surrounding areas after the incident. Administrative officials have appealed to the people to exercise caution while bathing in rivers or ponds during festivals and avoid going into deep water. Divers have been deployed as a precautionary measure for security at Chhath Ghats at many places in the district.
