Kanpur. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the fake marksheet and degree scandal in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The command of this 14-member team has been handed over to ADCP Yogesh Kumar. The team will soon reach Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University (CSJMU) and conduct a thorough investigation and interrogate the officers and employees there. The matter came to light when Kidwai Nagar police raided a coaching center ‘Shell Group of Education’. Four people were arrested from there and more than 900 fake degrees, mark sheets, migration certificates and other documents were recovered. Of these, maximum 357 fake marksheets and degrees were in the name of Kanpur University (CSJMU). A fake seal of CSJMU Deputy Registrar was also found from the accused. The gang was active in nine states and used to charge Rs 50 thousand for high school-intermediate, Rs 50-75 thousand for graduation and Rs 1.5 to 2.5 lakh for B.Tech, LLB and pharmacy degrees. The gang members, in connivance with some university employees, used to make fake entries in the online records so that the documents appear correct during verification.
Police have also found evidence of postdated checks and property worth crores. Names of many lawyers have also come to light who had taken fake LLB degree. A day earlier, the Registrar and Controller of Examinations of CSJMU had given a statement that there was no fraud on the part of the university and there was no contact with the police. However, in the recovered documents, collusion between the seal and records of the university is being suspected. Many officers and employees may come under the radar in the investigation.
The SIT will now visit the university campus to examine documents, interrogate employees and reach the depth of possible collusion. Police say that the search for other gang members is going on and the case will be pursued strictly. –
