Karnataka's new vehicle data system: Wrong challan will no longer go to other states, relief to drivers

If you used to take your vehicle out of Karnataka, many times you had to face challan without any reason. This problem was troubling vehicle owners for a long time. Actually the problem was not in your document but in the data system. The data of many vehicles in Karnataka was not updated properly on the VAHAN portal of the Central Government. Whereas the traffic police of other states check the vehicle information through this portal. When the data was not visible in the system, the police felt that the vehicle did not have the necessary documents and hence a challan was issued.

Which states had to face more problems?
Actually, this problem was especially seen in those states where people from Karnataka frequently travel. Like Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. At these places many people had to pay heavy fines despite having valid documents. In many cases, challans up to Rs 10,000 were issued, causing a lot of trouble to the people. From this it became clear that the problem was not in the rules, but in the lack of data.

New digital system implemented
The Karnataka government has taken this problem seriously and has taken a big step. PUCC (Pollution Control Certificate) data has been directly linked to the VAHAN portal from April 1, 2026. Now this data can be accessed from anywhere across the country. New certificates will be updated in the system immediately, while old records are also being uploaded gradually. With this, the traffic police will now be able to get correct and complete information on a single platform.

What benefit will vehicle owners get?
After this change, vehicle owners of Karnataka will get many benefits. The biggest advantage is that now the possibility of wrong challan in other states will be significantly reduced. Apart from this, the need to show documents again and again will also be reduced. The verification process will become faster and easier. Let us tell you that now vehicle owners can also keep their important documents in digital form. Apps like mParivahan and DigiLocker can be used for this. In these apps you can view the documents of your vehicle anytime.
