Karur stampede case: CBI will interrogate actor Vijay in Delhi

Chennai . Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay has been summoned to appear again before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi on Monday in connection with the investigation into the Karur stampede case. The CBI has intensified its investigation into the tragic stampede that took place during Vijay’s political campaign rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu on September 27 last year. In this incident, 41 people lost their lives after getting trapped in the huge crowd, which sent a wave of shock across the country and raised serious questions on crowd management and administrative preparedness.
This investigation is being monitored by a supervisory committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi.
Earlier last week also, on January 12, the actor was interrogated by the CBI for 6 hours continuously. Now the actor has been called for questioning again on January 19.
Under this surveillance, the CBI has intensified its investigation, focusing on responsibility, failures in planning and the sequence of events that led to the fatal accident.
As part of the investigation, the CBI had last month questioned senior TVK functionaries, including party general secretary Bussi Anand, election management division general secretary Adhav Arjun, joint general secretary Nirmal Kumar and Karur district secretary Mathiyajagan.
The agency recorded their statements to find out who had organized the event, how the preparations were done and whether necessary security arrangements were made.
The questioning of Vijay The case pertains to a political campaign organized in Karur on September 27, 2025, when Vijay was campaigning for the TVK party. In this incident, the actor had arrived late than scheduled, due to which a stampede broke out due to the increase in the crowd at the venue of the meeting.
41 people lost their lives and dozens were injured in this stampede. Expressing grief over the incident, the actor also gave an assistance amount of Rs 20 lakh to the families of the deceased and also spoke to some families through video conferencing.
