Chandigarh. Sirsa MP, former Union Minister, National General Secretary of Congress and member of Congress Working Committee (CWC) Kumari Selja said that the people of the country have heard big promises in the last several years, but most of the promises proved to be political statements instead of being fulfilled. He said that now the time has come for the government to be accountable to the public and ensure transparency in every matter in which people’s faith, hard-earned money and the future of the country are involved. Kumari Selja said that BJP made many big promises to the public over the years. It was promised to double the income of farmers, it was said that Rs 15 lakh will be deposited in the account of every citizen, the target of providing permanent houses to all by the year 2022 was declared, but crores of people are still waiting for the fulfillment of these promises. He said that the public is now clearly seeing the gap between promises and reality. The MP said that demonetisation was described as a historic step against corruption, black money and fake notes, but even then the country’s economy, small traders, laborers and common people had to face huge difficulties. Congress believes that there should be an impartial review of the declared objectives of demonetisation so that the country can know what was actually achieved by it. Kumari Selja said that during the recent international tensions, many Indian citizens and their families faced difficult circumstances. He said that in such times, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the safety of citizens, timely assistance and transparent system, so that no Indian has to face unnecessary trouble.
Referring to the recent controversies related to Ram Temple, Kumari Selja said that many questions are being raised in the media and political level regarding the financial management of the Temple Trust. He said that crores of devotees have donated and supported on the basis of their faith in Lord Shri Ram. Therefore, if allegations of any kind of financial irregularity are being made, there should be a fair and transparent trial. Kumari Selja said that the Congress Party fully respects Lord Shri Ram, Sanatan tradition and religious faith of the countrymen. The aim of the party is not to hurt any religious sentiments, but to bring out the truth on every question related to the wealth and faith of the people. If everything has happened as per the rules, then it will become clear from the investigation and if there is any irregularities, then action should be taken against the culprits as per law.
Kumari Selja demanded that the allegations being made in the financial matters related to Ram Temple should be investigated under the supervision of a sitting or retired judge of the Supreme Court, so that there is no doubt on the impartiality of the investigation. He said that in a democracy, accountability, transparency and protection of public trust should be the top priority. The MP said that Congress believes that governments are formed on the trust of the public and when questions related to public trust arise, they should also be answered with complete transparency and fairness.
