Kupwara, June 18 (). As part of the campaign against drug trade in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, Trehgam police has arrested a suspected drug smuggler and recovered narcotics from his possession. The police have registered a case against the accused and started investigation.
A team from Trehgam police station was carrying out regular patrolling and surveillance operations in the area. During this time, the police found the activities of a person suspicious. Police personnel stopped him, interrogated him and searched him as per necessary legal procedure. During the search, intoxicating substance like hashish was recovered from him.
The arrested person has been identified as Nadeem Ahmed Gojri. The police took possession of the recovered substance on the spot and started necessary legal action. The accused was then detained and taken to the police station for further investigation.
Police officials said that a detailed investigation is being conducted regarding the quantity of the recovered drug and its source. Also, efforts are being made to find out whether the accused is connected to any big drug network or not. During the investigation, the contacts and activities of the accused will also be investigated.
A case has been registered in this regard under section of NDPS Act at Trehgam Police Station. Investigation into the matter has been started and police say that further necessary legal action will be taken based on the investigation.
Kupwara Police said that the campaign against drug trade and drug trafficking will continue in the district. The police have also appealed to the common people that if they have information about any suspicious activity or drug trade around them, they should immediately inform the police. Officials say that cooperation between the police and the public is very important to save the society from the drug problem.
Police say that to save the youth from drug addiction and ill effects of illegal drugs, such campaigns will continue in future also and strict action will be taken against those who violate the law.
