Jaipur. Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga, a vicious criminal of Lawrence Bishnoi gang active in Rajasthan and Punjab in America, has been caught by the police. He was absconding for the last several years and while living abroad, he used to plot ransom demands and firing incidents for his gang based in India. Now the American agency ICE has detained him near the Canada-US border. This major action has been taken after continuous monitoring and sharing of information by Rajasthan’s Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF). Rajasthan Police is now trying to bring him to India so that further action can be taken in the old cases registered against him. ADG AGTF Dinesh MN said that Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga was an active member of Lawrence Bishnoi gang and was working for the gang in Punjab and Rajasthan for the last few years. Even while living in America, he carried out many criminal gang activities. More than a dozen cases are registered against him in Punjab. Cases are also registered against him in Pratapnagar and Sardarpura police stations of Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. The court has declared him a criminal and an arrest warrant is issued against him.
In March 2017, Jagga had fired at Dr Sunil Chandak in Pratapnagar police station area of Jodhpur and threatened to kill him. After this, in September 2017, he remained in jail along with Lawrence Bishnoi and Anmol Bishnoi in the case of murder of businessman Vasudev Israni in Sardarpura police station area of Jodhpur. After coming out of jail, he continued to carry out acts of extortion and threats for the gang. According to the police, he had gone to Dubai three years ago on his original passport. From there he maintained the gang’s financing and contacts. Later he reached America illegally, from where he carried out ransom demanding and firing conspiracies for the gang.
According to sources, Jagga used to live abroad and collect extortion money from businessmen and builders in India. He used VPN networks and internet calling apps so that his location could not be traced. The AGTF team was continuously monitoring his activities and gathering information about his foreign network. When it was finally revealed that he was in America, AGTF informed the agencies there. On this basis, US ICE detained him near the Canadian border.
According to ADG Dinesh MN, now the process of deporting him to India has been started by establishing contact between the Home Ministry of the Government of India and American agencies. Several serious cases are registered against Jagga in both the states of Rajasthan and Punjab, which include charges like conspiracy to murder, firing, intimidation, and Gangster Act. His arrest is expected to expose many more hidden networks of the gang.
Jagga’s arrest is also considered important because he was also working for Rohit Godara gang. Rohit Godara is currently sitting abroad and directs many of the actions of the Lawrence Gang from abroad. Jagga was an important part of this network which used to plan and fund crimes in India. Now after his arrest, AGTF can get important information about the gang’s international connections, money transactions and digital operations.
This action is being considered a big success for Rajasthan Police. In the last few months, AGTF has arrested many operatives of Lawrence Bishnoi and Rohit Godara gang. Now this arrest in America is an indication that Indian agencies are now reaching out to criminals globally. This case is not just the arrest of a criminal, but an attack on an international gang network.
This arrest is a warning to the entire system as the gangster network has spread its wings in Rajasthan and Punjab in the last few years. After Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga is brought to India from America, the investigation of the cases registered against him will speed up and many old files of Lawrence-Godara gang can be reopened. Police sources say that after the interrogation of Jagga, a large part of the gang’s foreign funding, online threat network and international network will come to light.
AGTF officials believe that if this arrest successfully reaches India, it can prove to be like breaking the backbone of Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This will help in cracking down on the gangster networks operating not only in Rajasthan but in entire North India. Jagga’s arrest symbolizes that Indian agencies are now able to pursue criminals not only within the country but also abroad and is a major step towards India’s crackdown on organized crime.
