New Delhi, March 6 (). On the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, a special screening of the film ‘Mehrunisa’ directed by Sandeep Kumar will be held at the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Austrian Embassy.
It has been decided to screen the film in different countries, not just in Delhi but in collaboration with six Austrian Honorary Consulates located in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The screening will be organized at venues provided by local women’s organizations.
The film ‘Mehrunisa’, directed by Indian-origin Austrian filmmaker Sandeep Kumar, is the story of a woman who belonged to the Nawab family of Lucknow but still worked in Bollywood on her own terms and won the hearts of fans with her excellent acting in films.
‘Mehrunisa’ is the story of 85-year-old Farooq Zafar, who left his Lucknow mansion and took off for his dreams. The film shows her struggles, which later became a source of inspiration for other women. Earlier the film was screened at the International Film Festival in 2021.
The film was shot at different locations in Lucknow and apart from Farooq Zafar, Tulika Banerjee and Ankit Dixit are also present in the film. The film is female oriented with Farrukh Zafar leading the film at the age of 85. However, this film was the last film of the actress’s career. He breathed his last on 15 October 2021 after battling a prolonged illness.
Let us tell you that Farooq Zafar was a well-known name of Hindi cinema, who worked with many big stars but then also took a long break. She played the role of Rekha’s mother in the film ‘Umrao Jaan’ and from there she also entered Hindi cinema. After which the actress was seen in the films ‘Swadesh’, ‘Gulabo-Sitabo’, ‘Amma Ki Boli’, ‘Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa’ and ‘Peepli Live’. In ‘Gulabo-Sitabo’, the actress played the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s wife, who runs away with her old lover to save the mansion. Her bubbly role and lively character in the film is still present in the hearts of people.
