New Delhi, July 18 (). Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia has put an end to the ongoing speculations regarding Rohit Sharma’s ODI cricket future. Saikia has said that the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s will not be Rohit Sharma’s last match.
For the last few days, such reports were coming out that the last match of the ODI series against England could be the last match of Rohit Sharma’s ODI career. BCCI Secretary termed these reports as mere speculation.
BCCI Secretary Saikia told , “There are many talks going on about Rohit Sharma’s future. There has been no such discussion at the board level. I want to say clearly that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will play his last match at Lord’s on Sunday.”
Saikia has said that Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and will continue to represent the country as long as he is a part of the team. The Lord’s match is not the end of Rohit Sharma’s ODI career.
It is noteworthy that Rohit Sharma has expressed his desire to play till the ODI World Cup to be held in the year 2027. However, in the first two matches of the current series against England, he could not score big innings with his bat. He scored 11 runs in the first match and 26 runs in the second ODI.
Team India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak also supported Rohit after India’s defeat at the hands of England in the second ODI played in Cardiff. He said that there cannot be any kind of pressure on a big player like Rohit regarding his performance or future.
Kotak said that Rohit is a brilliant player and not scoring runs in the first two matches does not affect his ability. He also said that in the second ODI it seemed that Rohit could have played a big innings, but it did not happen.
