Jabalpur. Two women died tragically in a horrific road accident that took place on Sunday in Barela police station area near Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred when an unidentified speeding car crushed a group of laborers, killing two women on the spot and injuring more than a dozen people. According to the information, the workers were working on painting grills and installing divider railings on the highway and had stopped for lunch. Then at around 2 pm the vehicle hit him. Eyewitnesses said that the car hit the group of workers without slowing down and fled from the spot, causing chaos and screams.
The deceased have been identified as Chainwati Bai (40) and Lachho Bai (40).
Both the women were residents of Bihariya village under Bijadandi police station area of Mandla district and were camping as laborers in Jabalpur area.
According to the police, both the women laborers died on the spot, while several others were seriously injured.
A total of 13 people were injured who were immediately taken to the district hospital (Jabalpur Medical College Hospital) by 108 ambulance service.
Some of these people suffered minor injuries and were discharged after first aid, while the rest are undergoing treatment.
Police said that they were having lunch after work when suddenly a car came and crushed them.
Senior police officials said that after the accident the driver fled with the vehicle. As soon as the information was received, the police team immediately reached the spot and the injured were taken to the hospital. Doctors declared two women dead on arrival at the hospital, three seriously injured, and the rest with minor injuries.
The victims are mainly residents of Mandla district. Local residents gathered at the spot in anger and grief and immediately informed the authorities.
A case has been registered against the absconding driver and the search for the vehicle and the accused person is ongoing.
Police investigation is ongoing to identify the vehicle and arrest the driver.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
