Madhya Pradesh: Tribal widow gang-raped after robbery attempt in Jhabua

Bhopal. Some unidentified assailants barged into the house of a tribal widow in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district during an attempt to rob her and three men allegedly gang-raped her. Police said that the incident took place in Bori area on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. According to police, the woman alleged that some armed men entered her house and demanded silver jewellery. When she said she did not have the valuables they were looking for, the accused allegedly broke into the house, scattered household items here and there and searched the entire house. Then sexually assaulted her.
Police said that the woman alleges that three accused raped and beat her, after which they ran away. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment and medically examined. Police said that the forensic team visited the spot and collected evidence.
Confirming the incident, Jhabua Superintendent of Police (SP) Padma Vilochan Shukla said that an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code and several teams have been formed to trace the accused.
SP said that the statement of the victim has been recorded. His medical examination has been done and forensic evidence has been collected. Multiple teams are working to identify and arrest the accused and they will be arrested soon.
Political reactions also emerged on this incident. Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Umang Singhar demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict legal action against them.
Singhar said that this incident is extremely shameful and condemnable. He demanded that all the accused be immediately arrested and strictest legal action be taken against them.
He also demanded a fair investigation and accountability and said that if the victim did not get justice soon, the Congress party would launch a democratic movement from the streets to the Assembly.
