The crowd of tourists is increasing for the New Year in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The crowd of tourists is continuously increasing since Christmas. This rush of tourists is expected to continue till the first week of January. A large number of people are coming to Manali in their cars and taxis. After reaching Manali, tourists are flocking to Rohtang and other snowy and hilly places en route to witness the live snowfall. The problem is that there is no parking space and proper traffic management at these places.
Due to this, long traffic jams are occurring. To cover a distance of 1 to 2 kilometres, which usually took 10 to 15 minutes, is now taking one and a half to two hours. Despite heavy traffic jams, tourists are continuously flocking to these places, and long queues and traffic jams are being seen on the roads from Manali to Rohtang and beyond.
Traffic jam at snow spot
After Rohtang, Gramphu Snow Point in Manali is the most favorite place for tourists to see snowfall. The snow that has been lying on the high hills for the last few months is still visible, and tourists are coming in large numbers to see it.
The roads at this snow spot are very narrow, and due to lack of parking, people have parked their vehicles on both sides of the road, leaving very little space for vehicles to pass, leading to traffic jams.
If there is no traffic jam, why are people frustrated?
Although the tourists coming here are not particularly worried about the traffic jam, but they know that they will have to face traffic jam in Manali. However, they are disappointed that the weather department had predicted snowfall on December 30 and 31, but there has been no live snowfall yet.
Many tourists are blaming traffic jams and expensive hotel fares for common peak-season problems. However, some families claim that the taxi operators gave them wrong information, claiming that there has been live snowfall at Gramphu Snow Point. The thrill that tourists look for in Manali – enjoying snow and watching live snowfall – is not yet found. People are happy to take pictures of clear snow on high hills, but instead they have to face long traffic jams and chaotic parking.
The conditions are so bad that even while returning from these snowy places one has to face traffic jams for hours. Sometimes it takes one and a half to two hours to cover a distance of one and a half to two kilometres, which spoils the tourist’s travel plans.
The youth of Rewari, Haryana said that it is common for hotel rates to increase during the New Year season, but the problem has increased due to traffic chaos and local taxi drivers parking their vehicles at wrong places. Despite these difficulties, tourists are coming to Manali to welcome the New Year, and the crowd is increasing rapidly.
